By Lieutenant Matthew Thews
February 21, 2013

In the early morning hours of Thursday February 21st Box 17-34 was alerted for the attached garage on fire in the 9200 block of Providence Court. Initial units went on scene with fire showing from an attached garage with extension into the house. The tanker task force and rapid intervention dispatch were soon requested. RE153(Capt. Broyles) was dispatched on the tanker task force and responded with four volunteers. C15(Nalborczyk) responded on the box as well. RE153 was asked by Water Supply(BC902) to set up a fill site for tankers. RE153 reported to the creek in front of Station 17 on South Street. A draft was established and fill site set up. The creek had to be dammed to provide sufficient depth for drafting. Over the course of an hour and a half, RE153's crew, along with the help of Chief 9, filled 6 tankers. The fire had extended significantly into the house and units went into a defensive mode for a period of time. After the fire was knocked down crew reentered and completed overhaul. Units stayed on the scene into daylight hitting hotspots. RE153 returned to service around 0345 hours. Good work by all.
