By Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Thews
January 4, 2015

On Monday January 4th at 0153 hours units were alerted on Box 17-36 for the house fire in the 12900 block of Molasses Road in Johnsville. First arriving units found a large 2 story home with fire and smoke showing. C17(Stevens) established the Molasses Road command. Units began an interior attack on the fire. RE153(Sgt Chapman responded with 6 volunteers to fill the rescue squad assignment on the box. The crew was initially tasked with assisting on the interior, but crews were pulled out and a defensive attack was started. RE153's crew operated on the Delta side, protecting a large exposure and knocking a significant amount of fire. About an hour into the incident command requested the 2nd alarm. E152(Sgt. Kline), A159(FF Rosebrock), and U15(J. Fossett) responded with 12 additional volunteers. E152 assisted with roof operations and then made two trips to the interior to assist with hitting hot spots and overhaul. A159 staged throughout the incident and U15 shuttled personnel, hose, and equipment to and from the scene. The fire was knocked well over an hour into the incident and overhaul lasted well into the morning hours. The FM is still investigating the cause of the fire.
