New Market Volunteers Extricate One on Green Valley Road

On Saturday May 27th at 1028 hours, units from New Market and Medic 23 were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment at Route 75 and Baldwin Road West. A159 (FF Bloodgood), RS15 (Sgt. Chapman), ET154 (Tech. Johnson) (reserve), and C15-2 (AFC Betts) responded with 14 volunteers. Rescue Squad 15 arrived to find a tractor trailer vs. two passenger vehicles with one patient trapped. Rescue Squad 15's officer established the Route 75 command and the crew went to work stabilizing the car. The engine crew deployed a protection hose line, and the squad crew removed two doors and a B-post on the SUV to gain entry to the occupant. Battalion Chief 901 arrived and assumed command. Additional EMS units were requested to assist as well. Trooper 3 was started for patient transport and later cancelled by EMS901. ET254 was alerted to cover the landing zone. The trapped occupant was extricated in about 15 minutes. Crews also used over 75 pounds of absorbent to contain fluids. Two patients were transported to area hospitals.
