The New Market Volunteers along with the daytime career staff had a busy Wednesday afternoon and evening. While only five incidents were handled, three of them were significant responses.

At 1708 hours, Co.15 and Medic 17 were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment at Route 144 and Detrick Road. A159, RS15, E152, B156, U15, C15, and C15-2 responded on the call with 15 personnel. Units arrived to find a three vehicle collision with at least 8 patients requiring EMS evaluation. An EMS task force was requested by Command (Chief Nalborczyk). This brought ambulances from as far away as Frederick City to assist. Aviation was also started for a priority 1 trauma patient. No patients were trapped, but units were nonetheless overwhelmed by the number of patients. Crews quickly triaged, treated, and transported the patients.

At 1800 hours, Co. 25 and RS15 were alerted for a vehicle accident with rollover in the area of Route 75 and the railroad. RS15, B156, U15, C15, C15-1, C15-2, and C15-3 responded with 11 personnel. Crews were quickly re-directed to the railroad tracks behind the water tower on Baldwin Road East. Crews arrived to find a vehicle on its roof and on fire next to the tracks. The single occupant was found out of the vehicle and EMS providers began treatment. ET254 began fire suppression while B156 and U15 made access to the tracks. The patient was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

At 2124 hours, Box Alarm 15-4 was sounded for the commercial building fire at the Greenview Clubhouse on Empire Boulevard. E152, RS15, A159, C15-1, and C15-2 responded with 12 volunteers. Units arrived to find nothing evident form a single story commercial structure. The Co. 15 crews investigated an odor inside the building, but were unable to locate or duplicate the issue. The source was determined to be an HVAC issue and units picked up a short time later.
