On Saturday April 13th at 1734 hours Box Alarm 17-30 was sounded for "smoke coming from the roof of a garage" in the 8000 block of Chestnut Grove Road. RE153(Capt. Broyles), ET154(FF D. White), A159(Sgt. Sullivan), and CAR15(FF Stearn) responded on the call with 10 volunteers. CCLT10-1 was in the area and marked on the scene with smoke showing from a 2 story garage with attached apartment. CCLT10-1 declared a working fire, requested the rapid intervention dispatch and established the Chestnut Grove Road Command. RE153 arrived as the first engine and laid out from the end of the driveway. The crew found fire showing from the roof of the structure. RE153's crew stretched a line to the front door and initiated an aggressive interior attack. The crew quickly knocked down the fire and opened up the ceiling to completely extinguish the blaze. C17-2(Slane) was assigned the division 2 officer. Crews quickly controlled the fire and command scaled the box back to units from 15, 17, and 11. Good work by crews in stopping the rapidly advancing fire.
