| On Saturday, July 20th 2013 at 1620 hours units from Mount Airy and New Market were dispatched for a motorcycle accident on I-70 East Bound near the Rest Area. RE153(Lt. Thews), ET154(Sgt. Conaway), CAR15(Sgt. Williamson), and Co. 15 Fire Police responded on the call with 9 volunteers. The ambulance was committed on an EMS standby at Linganore Winecellars with 3 volunteers and therefore unavailable for the interstate call. RE153 arrived first to find a single motorcyclist down in the median and established the I-70 Command. Aviation was requested for a category B priority 2 trauma patient. The rider had lost control of the motorcycle and tumbled on the pavement for a short distance. ET154 was directed to shut down the highway and CCM19 provided patient care. The suppression units from Mount Airy were placed in service. Aviation was cancelled due to the extended ETA of Trooper 2. CCM19 transported one patient by ground to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, MD. Units cleared and command was terminated. |
