Volunteers and D-Shift Take in a Tractor Trailer Fire in Mount Airy

On Monday March 31st at 1017 hours units from Mount Airy and New Market were alerted simultaneously by Frederick and Carroll County communications for a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 70 West Bound at Route 27. RE153(Lt. Yoder), E152(Lt. Conaway), and C15-2(AFC Betts) responded on the call with 7 personnel. RE153 and CCE12 arrived simultaneously to find a tractor trailer with the tractor portion fully involved on I-70 westbound just prior to Route 27. Both engine companies stretched lines and put water on the fire. It was knocked down in just a few minutes. Additional units were requested by CCE12 to assist with extinguishment. Additionally HIRT33 was requested to control a saddle tank rupture with diesel leak. Units remained on scene until all hazards were mitigated and then units cleared.
