Vehicle Accident on I-70 Leads to Flyout

On Tuesday August 26th at 1239 hours units from New Market and Mount Airy were alerted for a motor vehicle accident with one possibly unconscious on Interstate 70 Westbound at Route 75. RE153(Lt. Day), E152(Capt. Thews), and C15-1(DFC Moe) responded on the call with 7 personnel. RE153 arrived to find a single vehicle sitting on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes just past Route 75. RE153 and E152 began treating the patient and stabilizing the vehicle. Aviation was requested for the patient, who was a category B, priority 2 trauma. The passenger side door had to be removed to facilitate removing the patient from the vehicle. THe patient was removed and placed in the care of CCM18 and CCM1. Trooper 3 landed in the westbound lanes of I-70 just west of the scene, with CCR1 handling the landing zone. THe patient was flown to Shock Trauma and all units cleared a short time later.
