On Tuesday February 10th at 1553 hours Rescue Box 15-6 was alerted for the building collapse with a subject pinned. RE153 (Lt. Leonard), E152 (AFC Thews), B156 (J. Fossett), U15 (FF D. White), C15-1 (DFC Moe), and C15 (FC Nalborczyk) responded on the call with 16 volunteers. RE153 arrived on the scene to find a very old grain bin structure that had collapsed on an elderly subject. The victim was pinned from his waist down. RE153 established the initial command. C15-1 arrived moments later and assumed the New London Road Command. The crews from RE153 and E152 quickly went to work stabilizing the structure with box cribbing and formulating a plan to lift the structure off the victim. The crews were eventually put under the direction of BAT901, who was the Rescue Group supervisor. The crews set up high pressure air bags to lift the building up, but quickly realized they were pinning the victim's feet between the rafters and roof of the collapsed bin. A third air bag was added between the roof and rafters to simultaneously free the victims feet. The victim was freed within 15 minutes of units arriving on scene. The victim refused transport after being evaluated by EMS and all units went in service.
