On Sunday May 10th, just after lunch time, units were alerted for an injured person in the Westwinds Subdivision. A159 (FF Hannaby) arrived to find a serious traumatic injury and quickly requested aviation and additional resources to assist. A159 and E152 (Sgt. Hanagan), with 8 volunteers, worked to land MSP Trooper 3 on the golf course and transport the serious patient to Shock Trauma.

At the same time, units were alerted to respond to I-70 Eastbound in the area of the 66 mile marker for a vehicle accident with entrapment. RE153 (Tech. Johnson), B156 (Tech. Lawson) and C15-1 (DFC Moe) responded on the call with 8 volunteers. Units arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle on its side and one occupant trapped. DFC Moe established the I-70 Command. RE153 went to work stabilizing the vehicle with Rescue 42 struts and a tie-back system. RE153 and CCR1 then removed the roof of the vehicle to free the occupant. Command requested aviation for the patient. Carroll Chief 1 (Stull) was the Rescue group leader. The patient was extricated in 15 minutes and transferred to the care of MSP Trooper 1. The patient was flown to Shock Trauma.

E152, CCR1, CCA18, and C15-3 also responded to a reported vehicle fire on I-70 in the traffic jam that occurred because of the incident. E152 arrived and found an overheated vehicle and returned all units.

All crews did an excellent job to bring positive outcomes for the patients involved. Our prayers go out to them.
