On Wednesday January 20th at 2154 hours, units from New Market and Mount Airy were alerted to respond for the vehicle accident with entrapment in the area of I-70 eastbound and the 64 mile marker. A159(FF Thews), RE153(Chief Nalborczyk), E152(FF Wardrick), B156(FF Gamble), and C15-3(AFC Kennedy) responded with 19 volunteers. A159 arrived to find a single pick up truck flipped over off of the slow shoulder, with 2 occupants pinned inside. RE153 arrived and immediately went to work stabilizing and extricating the victims. Both were found to be laying along the length of the bench seat, pinned beneath the collapsed roof and the seat. Both the driver and passenger doors were removed to gain access to the victims, who were subsequently pulled out. Both were transported priority 3 to FMH with minor injuries. The hazmat team was requested to deal with a leaking gas tank. C15-3 held the I-70 command. The units also responded to several other collisions in the area due to very slick conditions.
