The New Market Volunteers were recently invited to take part in a live burn exercise being hosted by the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company. The burn was held on Saturday April 2nd. Engine 152 and Chief 15-1 attended with five volunteers. Crews from Mount Airy VFC have spent the past several weeks preparing the house to make it safer to do live fire exercises in. Several burns were conducted on Saturday. It was a great opportunity for a lot of younger volunteers to gain some experience with live fire conditions. After all the training scenarios were completed the house was completely burned to the ground per the wishes of the homeowner. The structure had been offered to the fire department for training as a unique way of demolishing it. Thanks to Mount Airy VFC for the opportunity to train together.
