The Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association held their annual awards ceremony on Monday April 18th at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company #11. The New Market District VFC and several of its members were among the award recipients. NMDVFC was given two departmental awards. One was a citation for the life saving actions taken at the Lake Linganore Dam water rescue, and the second was a first place award for the most training hours per active member. NMDVFD averaged over 129 hours of training last year per active riding member.

Three other presentations were made to individual members of the department. Ladies Auxiliary President and life member Barbara Zimmerman was awarded the Mumma Outstanding Service Award. Past chief and life member Jerry Shanks was inducted into the FCVFRA Hall of Fame. Life member David Bowman was also inducted into the FCVFRA Hall of Fame. Both Jerry and Dave just completed their 50th year of service to the New Market community. Congratulations to each of the honorees!
