On Sunday May 1st at 1157 hours Box 17-26 was alerted for smoke coming from the house in the 7500 block of Woodville Road near Unionville. RE153 (Chief Nalborcyk) and C15-1 (DFC Moe) responded on the box with 6 volunteers. RE153 was dispatched as the 5th due engine on the assignment, but assumed 2nd due responsibilities once they arrived on scene. First arriving units from Co. 17 found a single family home with smoke showing. C15-1 was given Division 1, while C17-1 (DFC Slane) established Command. Division 1 reported smoke and heat on the interior with fire in the walls on the charlie side. The crews from E172 and RE153 stretched lines and opened up the walls to extinguished the fire. Searches for occupants and further extension proved negative. The assignment was eventually scaled back and units released after the fire was declared out.

While RE153 and C15-1 were on the fire, E152 was assisting at a MFRI Firefighter II class in College Park, MD. Several students in the class are from NMDVFC and E152 was requested to assist with conducting live burn scenarios. NMDVFC is proud to be a frequent supporter of MFRI programs with apparatus and personnel.
