The New Market Volunteers attended a county wide swift water rescue drill today in Thurmont. The drill took place in Cunningham Falls State Park and was a joint exercise between Frederick County Fire Rescue, the Maryland Park Service, and the American Red Cross. Utility 15, Boat 15, and Rescue Engine 153 attended with 8 swift water technicians. The scenario involved several missing individuals in different parts of the park. Various rescues were performed, including evacuation by water, overland rescues, rope rescues, and even a recovery by divers. The drill was a good learning experience for all involved, and a good chance to collaborate with the Park Service.
