On 30th of May 2019, a storm came through the New Market, MD area leaving a path of destruction after high winds and heavy rain blanketed the area. At New Market Volunteer Fire Company over 30 volunteers and career personnel dropped what they were doing and headed into the station to handle calls as they were received. Calls began to pour in, in the form of fire alarms, wires down, and trees on homes. Chief 15 established the New Market Area Command. Every piece of NMDVFD apparatus was staffed and responded to calls for service. Units were sent out scouting the area for unreported damage and checking on local residents. Many of the volunteers went from call to call without returning to the fire station for any type of rehabilitation. Over 20 calls were handled and varied from trees falling into houses, downed electrical wires, unknown odors, brush fires, and fire alarms. Crews even assisted some local farmers with water for their animals after power was lost and structures were damaged. Many area roads were closed down due to all the fallen trees and made them impassable by to vehicles thus requiring First Responders to answer some calls on foot. While the damage was severe, there were no reported injuries. Attached are a few photos of the damage done. Pictures were submitted from multiple sources.

You all had and have your work cut out for you. My heart almost physically hurt to see the damage done to your beautiful town. There are so much history and beauty in your century-old barns and homes that some family loved enough to keep up. The beauty before must have been staggering since the devastation is tremendous. We here in Texas are far too familiar how quickly these storms roll and roll out taking so much with them.
God Bless you and your's.
