In early September of 2020 we experienced a major mechanical failure with our 1990 Simon Duplex / E-One thus rendering it no longer serviceable for our department, during already troubling times based on COVID-19, this couldn't have come at a worse time. However, having second Engine service from our quarters had proven to be very beneficial over the past year it had been restored. So our Apparatus Committee went to work seeking out a piece of apparatus that would fill the needs of our department, luckily Hampstead VFD in neighboring Carroll County had a 1995 Seagrave Pumper for sale that they recently replaced with a new unit. On September 19th, we met with reps from Hampstead VFD and inspected the unit, the unit proved to be very beneficial for the department and capable of reducing our fleet from having a second Engine and Squad to just a second Engine capable of meeting Rescue Engine standards. Our department was successful in negotiating the sale of the unit with Hampstead VFD and took possession of the unit in early October. The unit went under several steps before rendering it ready for service to include Maryland Vehicle Safety Inspection/DOT, Paint, many mechanical upgrades, warning light upgrades, lettering and tools/appliance mounting. Much Thanks and Appreciation must be given to Adkins Automotive, Mark's Equipment Service, Joe's Upholstery, Airport View Signs, Atlantic Emergency Solution and Witmer Associates for their assistance in getting this unit in service, many of them donated time, labor and materials towards making this project complete. On January 1st, 2021 as the ball dropped signifying a new year, Chief Nalborczyk announced the placing of Engine-153 in service.
Engine-153 is a 1995 Seagrave Pumper with a 1500GPM Pump, 1000 Gallon Water Tank, 50 Gallon Class-B Foam Cell and a six (6) personnel cab. The unit meets and exceeds Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Engine Company Standards and nearly meets Rescue Engine Standards as the unit carries a full compliment of Amkus Rescue Tools and Rescue Equipment.
