Working Barn Fire

On Tuesday, June 29 at 0250 hours units from Frederick, Carroll, Howard, and Montgomery County were alerted of possible barn fire in the 13900 Block of Mattie Haines Road. E152(Sgt. Klingensmith) RS15(FFlll G.Wright) and Chief 15-2(Bowles) responded immediately with 10 volunteers. Carroll County medic 18 arrived first on the scene to find a large L-shaped barn well off with partial collapse. Carroll County lieutenant 1-1 arrives next and established the Mattie Haines Road command. E152 arrived on the scene and assumed first due Engine responsibilities and was tasked with the fire attack. Crews from New Market and Mount Airy began to protect exposures and extinguishing the barn fire. The crew had removed several pieces of the tin roof to get additional hot spots. Crews operated on the scene for approximately 2 1/2 hours before returning to service. C15-2 held the command for the duration of the incident.
