On Sunday May 6th RE153(Chief Nalborczyk) loaded up with a crew of 5 volunteers and headed to Jarrettsville VFC in Harford County, MD for the Maryland State Fireman's Association Spring Rural Water Supply Drill. This Bi-Annual drill allows companies from jurisdictions throughout the state to come together and put their water supply skills to the test. After a breakfast and briefing at the Jarrettsville VFC units responded to a simulated warehouse fire. With fire raging throughout the structure and limited water supply, first alarm units quickly began calling for additional alarms. Three draft sites were established for tankers to shuttle water to the dump site at the scene of the fire. RE153 set up at a pond along the roadway and set up a 4" gated wye to fill 2 tankers at once. Units supplied water for over 2 hours with an average flow of 1100 gallons per minute. The fire flow was never lost and units packed up at approximately 1145 hours. Lunch was provided at the Jarrettsville sub-station and a hot-wash was conducted. All those attending were able to take away a little more knowledge about rural water supply strategies and tactics. Thanks to Jarrettsville VFC and the MSFA for providing the NMVFC the chance to participate.
