By Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Thews
February 11, 2019

The New Market Volunteers responded to two separate structure fires within fifteen minutes of each other in the early morning hours of Monday February 11th.

At 0126 hours, units from Lisbon and surrounding areas were alerted for a barn fire in the 600 block of West Watersville Road in Howard County. RS15 (Sgt. Kennedy) was alerted on the call and responded with 3 volunteers. Units arrived to find a large barn with fire through the roof and began an exterior attack. Additional tankers were added to the call for water supply and units worked for several hours to extinguish the flames. RS15 cleared the scene around 0530 hours.

At 0147 hours, Box 33-1 was sounded for the house fire in the 9000 block of Shadywood Drive in Spring Ridge. E152 (Capt. Williamson), C15-1 (DFC Kennedy) and C15-2 (AFC Bowles) responded on the box with 6 volunteers. Co.33 and BAT901 arrived to find a two story single family home with nothing showing. Further investigation revealed fire in the floor between the garage and first floor of the home. Units made quick work of the fire and Co. 15 cleared within 30 minutes.
