By Firefighter/EMT Matthew Thews
July 19, 2011

On Tuesday July 19th at approximately 1715 hours, Carroll Company 1 was dispatched for the investigation of a smoke column in the area of Jesse Smith Road and Woodville Road. A few minutes later Frederick ECC filled the box for a barn fire in the 13400 block of Brandon Manor Court. CCB15 was in the area and responded. RE153(McTighe), ET154(Thews), and C15-1(Nalborczyk) responded with 11 personnel. CCB15(Dods) arrived first to find a 20x20 shed fully involved and established the Brandon Manor Court Command. C15-1 arrived shortly thereafter and assumed the command. Command scaled the assignment back to Mt. Airy and New Market units and T17. CCE12 supplied CCB15 and assisted in knocking the fire. RE153 and ET154 assisted with overhaul and extinguishment of the remains of the structure. The fire was contained within 15 minutes and was found to be caused by a lightning strike on a nearby tree. Units cleared at 1750 hours.
