FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fatal House Fire in Mount Airy Fire Under Investigation After Fatal Structure Fire (MOUNT AIRY) – At approximately 1:38 p.m. yesterday, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a house fire in the 13900 block of Foggy Bottom Drive in Mount Airy. Units from the Mount Airy Fire Station arrived first on scene to find fire showing through the roof of a single-story home. A Rapid Intervention Dispatch and Tanker Task Force were requested to assist with firefighting operations. Upon entry, crews encountered fire conditions on the first floor extending into the attic space. With the occupancy status unknown, firefighters initiated a primary search of the residence. During suppression efforts, crews identified a large hole burned through the first floor, limiting access to a portion of the home and creating additional operational hazards. It took approximately 40 minutes for units from Frederick, Carroll, Howard, and Montgomery counties to bring the fire under control. Once the fire was controlled, firefighters were able to find one deceased person beneath debris. There were no reported injuries to firefighters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Frederick County Fire Marshals Office. Damage estimates are not yet available. ### CONTACT: Sarah Campbell Public Information Officer Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services |
