On Saturday, May 4th at 2008 hours units from Companies 33, 3, 4, and 23 were dispatched for a detached garage fire in the 5300 block of Hines Road. First arriving E331 found a single story garage with fire through the roof. Two additional tankers were requested, bringing ET154(Lt. Thews) with 6 volunteers. Units on the scene also discovered a rapidly advancing woods fire and requested a brush task force. This brought B156(Chief Nalborczyk) with 2 additional volunteers. ET154 arrived and was assigned to attack the woods fire along with E31. Thew crew worked with brush rakes and upon the arrival of B156 a leader line was established to feed two 1" forestry lines. The crews from 15 spent about an hour and a half controlling the fire and mopping up all of the hot spots in the center. ET154 hauled loads of water to the scene to support the operation. In all five acres of woods burned, along with the garage. Units cleared at 2150 hours.

While ET154 and B156 operated at the garage and woods fire, the New Market Volunteers ran two additional calls. At 2026 hours A159(EMT Shirey) was dispatched for a patient assist in Spring Ridge. The call was handled by two volunteers. At 2044 hours RE153(Tech. Hackey) responded mutual aide to Mount Airy to assist on a brush fire on Prospect Road. RE153 handled the call with a crew of three volunteers. Thanks to all of the personnel who came out and helped clean up after the calls.
