Vehicle Extrication Drill Held at Station 15

By EMT Aileen Kara Kennamore
July 8, 2013

A Vehicle Extrication Drill was held in the rear lot of Station 15 starting at 1900 hours and ending at 2130 hours.

This drill was initiated by an explanation of equipment that RE153 has on the unit with volunteers and a verbal discussion of how the drill would be conducted this evening. A159 with 3 volunteers was nearby to provide support if necessary as well as participate in the drill activities.

RE153 was positioned for the drill after vehicles had been placed in an area appropriate for the drill to proceed. Lieutenant Thews, Assistant Chief Betts, Captain Lawson, and Sergeant Conaway were line officers overseeing and assisting/leading the instruction for the evening.

Many of the volunteers involved in the drill had training as a Rescue Technician and were able to assist our newer and probationary members with moving around on the drill scene and how to assist to the level of their training.

Cars were positioned to allow for 2 different entry attempts and utilize a variety of rescue tools. Every member had the opportunity to get hands on the tools or technique being described by the officers leading the drill.

Hydration was the key during the evening with the stifling temperatures and breaks were scheduled to keep volunteers in top shape.

After the drill was finished, equipment was returned to RE153 so that it would be ready for service.

New Market District Volunteer Fire Company is thankful for the donation of the cars used in our drill event.

Units: RE153, A159
