By Lieutenant Matthew Thews
November 21, 2013

On Thursday November 21st at 0341 hours Box 15-21 was alerted for the building fire at Countryside Auto Parts on Sidney Road. RE153(Lt. Thews), ET154(Sgt. Conaway), and C15(Nalborczyk) responded immediately with 10 volunteers. While enroute, units were advised by ECC that multiple calls had been received and the building was reported to be fully involved. C15 requested the tanker task force. RE153 reported the fill sites to be hydrants in the town of Mount Airy along both Prospect Road and Route 144. RE153 arrived on scene to find a single story 25' by 50' commercial building fully involved with several exposures including a house trailer. C15 arrived and established the Sidney Road Command and made RE153-A the fire attack group leader. RE153's crew deployed an attack line to protect the exposures. ET154 nursed RE153 and pulled their blitzfire line to start knocking the fire. ET254 arrived and deployed an attack line to the delta side of the building. ET254 reverse layed a supply line to Sidney Road and Concord Court to set up the tanker dump site. TWR23 eventually arrived and set up for aerial master stream operations. Tankers from the tanker task force shuttled numerous loads of water to the dump site. MCE713 and E331 established the tanker fill sites. CCE12 and TR41 had the RIT assignment. BC901 assumed water supply and directed those operations on 9 Echo. The fire was knocked down after about two hours and units began to pick up. Overhaul operations and the fire marshal's investigation were conducted. All units cleared by 0700 hours.
