November 19, 2020

On Thursday, November 19 around 07:00 hours, units from Frederick County and New Market were alerted for a sinking vehicle in the area of Monocracy Boulevard and Route 85. Boat Support 15, Boat 15, Dive 15, and Boat15-1 responded immediately along with other units. First arriving companies found one vehicle approximately 20 feet from the shoreline in about 5 feet of water. Crews from the city made initial entry into the water to check if the vehicle was occupied or not. Crews confirmed the vehicle was empty and were able to obtain the VIN number. Command made the decision to activate the dive team to search underneath and around the vehicle for a possible victim. Command also requested Caroll County Dive 13 to assist. Dive 15 members entered the water and located a victim about 25 feet from the car. Dive members were able to recover the victim, who was unfortunately deceased. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim.
