All hands,

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that I share the news of the line of duty death of Captain Josh Laird at 17:59hrs this evening. Captain Laird joined the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Service on July 31, 2000, as a member of recruit class four. He rose through the ranks over his 21 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Frederick County to his current assignment where he served as the station commander of the Green Valley Fire Station.

I would like to extend my personal gratitude to the companies that worked so hard to care for Captain Laird this evening. The days that lay before us will be challenging, critical incident stress resources will be made available to all members of our service. I ask that you keep an eye on each other and reach out if anyone is in need of assistance.

Please keep the Laird family, including his wife Sara, his daughters, Erin and Maddie, in your thoughts and prayers.
